[W126 Coupe] Console Rubber

What about having somebody run a batch of new rubber surrounds? I bet
with $400 you could get someone to make 1000 of them, and then sell them
to list members for $1.39 (.39 for the new 1st class standard shipping
rate). I'm sure there are list members who know people who own metal
fabrication shops...how about a rubber fabrication shop?

Subject: Re: [W126 Coupe] Console Rubber

This part has been NLA for a LONG time.. The 6/89 and later have the
hard plastic insert that takes the place of the rubber.. The hole on
the later pieces of wood is a Good bit bigger then the earlier style and
I doubt if the plastic would look/fit well no matter the modification.

There is no simple/satisfactory way to handle this other then purchasing
new wood.

If the only way MB sells the rubber surround insert for the console
shift gate is attached to a $400 piece of veneer, you may want to try
and measure the overall cut-out size and compare this to the 126 later
year sedans. The sedans use a plastic surround with four pressure slots
that fit between console wood and shift gate enclosure. What's more
this plastic rim sort of folds over onto the surface of the console wood
where the original rubber flushes up to the wood's edge and sits more on
the shift gate.

If the measurements are close you could just try cutting off the
pressure tabs and see if it will sit in place with a dab or two of black
silicon. 'If it does not fit you must errrquit' and figure out another
solution. I figure this may be worth a try. I'll do a test fit of the
sedan plastic on my coupe when I get a chance the end of the week.
