I've owned 2 - 420 SEL's and 2 - 560's (one a coupe). All have been 1991 model years. As with all models, most of the problems you may have heard about were sorted out through the years which is why I always try to own the last year of the run. Both of my 420's were well over 250,000 miles without any serious problems. Window regulaters will break on both models, radios suck, and the AC system will eventually develop leaks. Other than that and the fact that, as heavy cars, they go through tires and brakes faily rapidly, you shouldn't have any concerns. Again, I'm talking about the 1991 model years. As previously stated by someone, the 560's are more powerful, better appointed, and come with self leveling if that matters to you. Just remember to replace the timing chain every 100 k or so.
