I have an 89 420SEL(34k) that Satish's group just did some work to. I drove
the car from Florida to New Jersey, and back and forth to Michicgan for long
trips.
The bodies on the 420 and the 560 seem identical. The trunks carpeting and
the diplomats for the back seat were 2 main things that were different. The
other would be the heated seats that are not standard on the 420 and missed
by me on those long trips, and the optional passengers air bag.
I wonder why though someone would not have gone for that option.
When you are doing 80 though it still has a nice steady ride and still quite
abit of pickup when punched!
PS Car is from the estate of the deceased Perry Como.

My folks have a 87' 420sel with 287,000 and have never had any major work
done
to the car other than the maintenance items. Such as basics,
shock,brakes,timing
chain, ball joints, etc. The usual stuff with these cars. But the motor has
never had any problems at all. There is a huge difference in ride and
engine
power with the 560sel. If you want the ride and the power and all the bells
and
whistles go with the 560sel. The 420sel is a severely de-tuned sedan. Still
a
nice car. But lacks the badge that says I'm top of the line.
