420's have horrible problems with left cam oilers. They break cams all
day long. Trust me, I sell them every day.

I don't know of any particular problem with the 420 engine. The engine
appears to be developed directly from the 380. I have heard a number of
people dump on the 420 but, as I said, personally I have had no
experience with them good or bad.
Why '86 - '91? Because that's when they were offered in the 126. They
replaced the 380 from '80 - '85. Maybe it was an attempt to provide a
bit more power?
I suspect there is nothing "less desireable" about the 420. I only know
one person with a 420SEL, 225,000 Km and he has had no abnormal
problems.
I guess I am asking if anyone with experience with the 420's to comment.
I intend to ask some questions myself. I'm curious now.
