There is not much that can be adjusted on the Bosch KE3-Jetronic fuel 
injection for these cars. I'll bet he is setting the mixture a bit 
richer, perhaps by fooling with one of the temperature sensors to make 
the engine seem "colder". The air/fuel ratio set by the oxygen sensor is 
a little on the lean side of maximum horsepower.

You would get more gain from a fresh set of spark plugs and proper 
mixture adjustment. You can also do a little bit with the low end by 
tinkering with the 750-ohm spark advance control resistor, but you had 
better be ready to spring for 93 octane fuel.
