[W126 Coupe] braking and front of car noise

Again on my dad's 85 500 SEL, when you lightly press
on the brakes, you can hear a clunking sound from the
front of the car.  Also when you brake hard, you get
the same clunking, but more when you first hit the
brakes and then again when you let off.  Not sure what
to look for.  The front brakes are fairly new,
replaced within the last 6 months.
