[W126 Coupe] engine will not rev past 5,000 rpm

I changed both fuel pumps last night so we'll see if
that was the issue. If not, I may have to switch to
an EFI system sooner than expected.

Jim;
I know this is not the same problem as yours, but last
week, coming to the end of a 2 hour drive, I suddenly
couldn't rev above about 1500rpm. I had been driving
110-120 Kph and out of the blue, 70 Km/hr was the top
speed. And a hill slowed me down to 40 Kph. No bad
noises, oil pressure fine, temp fine, perfect idle.
I figured something had crawled under my accelerator
pedal and died there, but no.
The problem? The tri-pivot (mounted over the #1
injector) connecting the accelerator to the throttle
rod and the cruise servo rod, had seized absolutely
solidly. Obviously, so solid it was that a 200lb foot
on the accelerator pedal couldn't budge it.
When it cooled down (the day was hot, the engine
compartment was hotter!) I could move the pivot and
take it apart. Bizarre!
