I had the same experience.  You'll need the pressure bleeder to remedy.  Two other things to watch for, if you've been sending the pedal to the floor with today's pumping action and the brake fluid had not been replenished in many years, you could end up with a damaged master cylinder.  If the SEC has seen intense heat where you live, it may prove worthwhile to order the two rubber pressure caps that sit atop the fluid reservoir while you are at it.  If either is dried out or cracked, application of the pressure bleeder at 20# or more will blow them out making for a big mess.

I have found that the ABS system needs 25-28# to move the new fluid to the calipers.  This is considerably higher pressure than others have used but, I've done 3 MB's now and this remains constant as the best pressure.  There is the possibility that my gauge is less than accurate but, it's a new unit that I have used exclusively for MBs.
