Yep - on an 84 with only 45K. The problem was tired, stiff seals in the
tranny. It took a complete rebuild, even though all else was in fine shape.
The price from a shop that has experience with MB units was about $1,800.

Subject: [W126 Coupe] Transmission in reverse help!
Hi all,
Lately, I'm experiencing a delay (up to 30sec) when I put it in reverse
before the car moves. Seems like the reverse gear is not catching. I don't
have any problems in the drive mode. The gears are switching normally. It's
only in reverse. I've also checked and changed the transmission fluid. It
was fine.
I've tried searching the archives and all the information of a bad
transmission was in the drive mode. Any experiences with this?
Thanks,
Scott
