Non-US VINs are normally WDB1261751A etc. while US VINs (for our SECs)
normally are WDBCA045 etc. The US VIN is supposed to have the year coded
into the tenth digit while Non-US do not. Non-US VINs have the chassis model
just after the first three letters (the "126") while the US VIN has a model
designation (045) that need deciphering. If you have a Non-US VIN, it is
readily apparent to the local DMV and US customs folks (assuming they're
awake), hence the difficulty in working with a "gray market" car. I had a
DMV lady insist that the 1996 E60 in front of her was a 2001 model due to
the VIN number. I got it straightened out, but it took a while and went
several levels above her pay grade.

What's the VIN on the car in question? Don't need the last seven digits,
just the first ten alphanumerics.

Received imfo back from Mercedes Benz Canada.

Quote: Unfortunately Mercedes Benz Canada will not be able to confirm a
vehicle can be imported into the United States. I suggest you contact the US
Dept. of Transportation directly and/or Mercedes Benz US at 1-800-367-6372 -
Erin Somerville/Costomer relations.
Mike I did'nt know there was a difference in Vin # between countries could
you further explain this.
