Talbir,
Congratulations on finding the somewhat rare 3.27 w/ABS. You do know
that MB made a factory 3.27, so it may or may not be an AMG 3.27. If it
is, it's a great score.
You do know that a 3.27, while providing some serious acceleration
potential, also provides some seriously elevated RPMs too. With that
gearing, doing anything above about 70 MPH is going to be VERY noisy,
and fuel inefficient. You may very well find that it will be too low of
gearing for your taste. Highway cruising at high speed, something the
SEC excels at, is going to be a different experience and you may end up
switching back to taller gearing.
This is why Gary Dempsey "Chinook" and I decided to go with the 3.06
gearing -- even that's still a bit low (err..."busy") for highway
cruising but given stock MB gearing available, it was the best
compromise. It's going to be 800+ RPM higher at highway speeds just
with the 3.06. I can't imagine what it will be with the 3.27.
So I'm interested to hear how things work out, and how your experiences
stack up with the 3.27.
Cheers,
Gerry
