Err...I meant Linda Tripp, but point taken. The limited liability wasn't
just for schools though, the case set a general precedent (I can't seem
to remember the name of the case and googling isn't helping...I may just
e-mail my teacher, or just ask the lawyer who told me about how VA cops
are still trying to pull the kind of crap they were doing 20 years ago).
I think in the end you'd be legally gray but the fact that it the
recording would prove that a cop is corrupt would let things slide (you
could get media attention and they don't want that so best not make a
fuss).

Limited liability! Schools and places like that come under totally
different guidelines. Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton? Enough said!

But the key is you're a cop. I'll see if I can scrounge up the Supreme
Court case which limited the liability of a civilian (it was dealing
with a school principle who found dollar joints on a student. Also
remember, Monica Lewinsky did an illegal tap but it proved no problem
for her).
