But David, we are not talking about depriving the engine of air. To 
reduce the air-fuel ratio without changing the altitude is simply to 
inject more fuel. It will not be burned as efficiently, but the HP gain 
from the extra fuel is greater than the loss from poorer efficiency. 
Kills gas mileage, of course<G>!

Not quite. A very slightly rich mixture does produce more HP than the 
"ideal" ratio. Look for "lambda" charts on the Net, or I will will scan 
one from a Bosch fuel injection book later.
