[W126 Coupe] Voltage

I have just returned from a journey, during it I stopped the car for about 10mins which flattened the battery. I called the automobile association who  came along and jump started the car. The guy checked the alternator and battery and both were ok, but on checking further the voltage generated by the alternator was about .5 less by the time it got to the battery indicating some resistance. Has anyone any idea what could be causing this.

Any help appreciated.
