Most of that wiring is wiring between the engine/injection control modules, 
which all talk to each other. You've got the 2 injection computers (one for 
each bank), two EZL's (one for each bank), ASR/ABS, throttle computer etc 
etc etc....

More of the components are electriconically driven - for example the thottle 
is fly-by-wire essentially, all controlled electronically by the computer 
and throttle actuators, after initial movement of the throttle.

That image....looks a bit like Joseph's technicolour dreamcoat......
