Satish,

A MAGNIFICENT job. CONGRATULATIONS !

I am currently in the process of the same conversion....only a few people
knew about it although I did allude to it in a posting a few months back. I
should be finished with mine about end-June.

I am putting a 1993 w140 600SEL motor in my 500SEC 'AMG'. The M120 and
722.362 will be mated to the 3.27 LSD I acquired a few months back. As the
car is a 1985, I do not legally need to run with cats (which were introduced
here in '90).

You're right about cost - it doesn't cost much, provided you do your
homework and have contacts. I too am doing ALL the wiring and plumbing work
myself with the exception of the engine bay fabrication which is being done
by a family friend who runs an MB bodyshop. I got the entire 600SEL for
approx US $7000. I have already sold the body + interior and other bits for
$3000. Plus I will get approx $1000 for my old Euro 500 engine and tranny
and 2.24 LSD. So net total cost will be approx $3000 + any unforeseens. And
I took alot of expensive accesories of the 600SEL which will make their way
onto my w124 E500...

BUT...you do have to ensure you do your homework, as Satish has mentioned,
the parts on these engines are a fortune. I got my S600 dirt cheap because
the EGAS throttle control module was faulty. A new one from MB costs a cool
$7500 ! That's just one module and more than what the entire car cost me -
easy to see why the guy sold it! BUT....I have plenty of MB contacts here in
the UK and acquired a working EGAS module for a tenth of that price - and
it's a latter part no. too which superceded the previous. (Add $800 to the
unforeseens).

I'm aware of the oil pans and custom mounts issues already. My main concern
is electronics as my 500SEC does not have ASR - and I'll have to convince
the ASR module (which also governs ABS, cruise and communicates with tranny)
that all is well wrt speed signals.

The final result will be well worth it - however, I am doing a few other
special mods on my 500SEC 'AMG' apart from the V12.....all to be revealed in
late June....

Once again Satish, your work is an INSPIRATIONAL piece of ART !
