Hmm, which S600 engine is this? I guess I don't have to ask since Jim
said 4-valve, but I was thinking it was the later 3-valve version. $7500
in parts was it? Did he find a wrecked car or something? I thought a 600
longblock alone is around 13 grand, plus then all the injection and
ignition parts, I'm thinking new radiator system too, maybe some custom
fabrication to make various mounts. I can't imagine only cost $7500 in
parts, I would have thought around $20k+.
Carl, you reading this? I know you guys are going to start carrying
Mosselman. Do you have a price on the supercharger they have for the
500euro engine? I never realized that a rebuilt euro 500 engine could be
had for $4500, and while it wouldn't be the ideal supercharged 560 set
up, that might just be idiotic (looking at about 14grand to convert to a
560 and then $15000 for the Koenig, I'm guessing Jim's set up doesn't
cost less than 6000, versus $4500 to convert to a euro 500 and then
however much for the mosselman. Not 400+hp but still 300hp and 368lb-ft,
and I have enough cash to do it this summer).
Richard

What plastic covering? Have you seen the V12 motor? You don't see
plastic, you see the engine itself where you can count the banks for the
cylinders right in front of you in the standard Benz silver metal color.
The 5.0 had plastic covering the motor but not the 6.0.
Cost is relative. Depends on what you do, who does it, etc, etc. In this
case around $7500 minus whatever the old engine/trans will fetch if/when
sold. Not bad for stock, reliable Benz power pushing over 400 in both
horsepower and ft/lbs of torque.

Anybody know what the V12 conversion cost? I still think I like the 560
engine with a Koenig specials (or Jim's, how much power is Jim pushing?)
supercharger on it more, just because there is less plastic covering and
that nice air filter on top.

Yes, quite impressive. The motor/transmission from an S600 implanted
into an SEC. Absolutely awesome, amazing, cool...well you get the idea!
Unfortunately I ran out of the house and was on the road before I
realized I had forgotten my camera but I know plenty of others had them
so we'll have to wait until the pictures come out and get them compiled
for all to see. It is such a nice job and looks like it could have come
out of the factory that way. The hood was up as the car sat in the shop
for all to view and it got quite a bit of attention. Since my engine
wasn't detailed to Ellen's specs I was too embarrassed and kept my hood
down, especially since its just the stock motor and not interesting to
look at with the V12 SEC a few car down, a 500E with nitrous (Bergwerks
special), and a C55 AMG which Motorwerks is helping to get ready for the
One Lap of America race. Brent and I did want to figure out how to get
one of the Benz racing engines in our cars, 2.65 liter with 900
hp...until we heard they break them down after 500 miles and rebuild
them for $50K!
