Define "left side" - driver's or passenger's side. The first thing that came
to mind was a noise that would come from the passenger side of the engine at
the front - that you're hearing timing chain slap. Could that be the noise?
What year is the car, how many km/miles on it and how long ago was the
timing chain and upper chain guides replaced?

Well.. finally did rotors and pads all around.. put on the summer tires
and took her out on the autobahn. Guess I gave her too much of a workout
as now i have this god dang clatter on the left side.
Using a mechanics stethascope it sounds like maybe in the valve train near
# 2 or # 3... without the stethascope it sounds like a main bearing or wrist
pin. She had a light tick since the day i got her.... but now i am afraid
to drive her and have catastrophic failure.
Looked into rebuild (would be so nice) but an engine from the USA costs
$6000 and I would be stepping up to a 560. Over here my first estimate
was "drop off car, pick it up in 1 week, everthing that moves or can wear
is replaced only cost $9000.
Gotta run her to Mercedes Mechanic., Thought maybe a hydraulic equalizer
is the cause... but they all seemed good when i popped valve cover off
lastnight.
Insight or just plain pitty is appreciated.
