You sure that's not for an SE/SEL hood? SEC hoods are MUCH more
expensive than the sedan hoods (same with rear windows, and grills, and
just about everything).

They sell for 50 gbp here in the UK.....I can get them for that price
ALL day long....

Yes, an original MB part SEC hood for 50gbp - that's about $100

Why are they so expensive out there ?

Insurance may be your other option if you have a full comp policy with
protected NCD, given the monetary level of damage you have. It's what
insurance is for...so long as your NCD is protected for two or more
fault claims.
