Jim,

I have used Safelite in the past for windshield replacement.  I was not 
pleased with the work.  Upon removal of the glass they some how cut the 
A-pillars.  The had to pay me for the damage and the windshield was free.  I 
do think though that the glass quality is of the same or better than oem. I 
would just ask them when you talk to them if the installer has any 
experience with Mercedes.  I would also recommend taking it to them vs. 
having them do it on site. If you choose to use them.   I now use a local 
company that was recommend by my indepent MB shop and have been more than 
pleased with their work.
I guess if you don't use the defogger why mess with it. Just my 2cents.
