You can be sure that more gasoline is added as more air flows. Whether
that is part of the original design or some added apparatus, adding air
without fuel will, as already said here, just melt the pistons. Been
there, done that.
Diesels work differently. You cannot compare their mixture adjustments,
throttle operation, etc with gasoline engines .
