Been there, done that. It is of no concern sitting in the pan. Like
Christopher said, with the filter on the suction of the pump, it isn't going
anywhere. You can leave it in there for years.

Yes that would be me - today I snapped 2 inches off from the bottom of my
TRANSMISSION dipstick - it is now sitting somewhere inside either the
dipstick tube or has made its way into the tranny.......
Question is does anyone on the list know for sure if the it can actually
enter the tranny and cause damage - or do I need to have the vehicle trucked
to the shop for removal.

PS: I tried to cut the dipstick near the cap so I could just put the cap
back on - you wouldnt believe how hard it was to cut the darn dipstick -
ended up using bolt cutters....................of course snapping it off by
mistake was really easy - so be careful.
