I did US 2 a couple of years back. We connected at Grand Forks and spent
three or four days getting to Seattle. Here is a short version that may
interest you.

North Dakota had nice stuff (fields of sunflowers streching forever).
And then Great Falls, Glacier National Park, Waterton, North Cascades.
Can't say much about I-5 south to Medford, though. Close pass to Mt
Rainier if your interested, and Johnston Ridge Observatory @ MSH is only
about an hour out of the way.

East of Portland is Multnomah Falls and several lesser falls. And a
little farther east is is Hood River, home of the wind surfing set.

About 20 miles east of Salem is Silver Falls State Park, with several
falls in excess of 200 feet high, with a nice paved trail about 3 miles
long that comes out at the parking lot, so no hills to go up! The rest
of the trip to Medford is mostly trees, at least as seen from I-5.
Crater Lake at sunset comes to mind, too, and is near there. I suspect
that some of the Oregon members can provide a better list, for I don't
get down there too often.

I did a trip to Yosemite in August a few years ago, and dicovered theat
the famous waterfalls are turned off during the summer. The tour guide
said they were waiting for rain, or something like that. Nice place, but
no water.....
