Here's a link to an ebay auction for one of them.... This is a 
"fingerprint camera"

the idea is the 4 bulbs are powered by the batteries.  You put this up to 
the print--covering the image, so the only illumination is the internal 
lamps, then fire the shutter.  Since the light is measured and the lens is 
focused on the edge of the box-part of the camera, the shutter and 
aperture are set.

There is also an attachment that went on a Speed Graphic that made it 
easier to photograph at 1:1.
