Great pictures! Taking a page out of Dr. Leake's book, I suspect that
the evolution of the classic tailboard camera ended with the 2D in the
US. It was killed off by the monorail camera which still exists today.

But separated by a large pond things evolved differently over there and
somebody at Kodak UK seems to have taken the better parts of the
monorail and put them on the 2D. Very nice find!

On a similar note, I'm now confused about the whole whole-plate thing. I
thought whole plate was 6 1/2x8 1/2, 1/2 plate would be 4 1/4x 6 1/2
  and quarter plate was 3 1/4 x 4 1/4

Is it possible that the backs aren't imperial but metric? the 5x7 is
really 12x17 cm? I saw a while back somebody selling metric film
holders and hangers.

You might want to contact Todd Gustavson at George Eastman House.
         "Todd Gustavson" <todd@geh.org>

He's got a lot more toys than I do. He might have some literature or something.
