[AGL] Fwd: Texans and guns

<<The buzzards may have migrated to Uvalde
we aren't sure?<<

They go south every November. Around here their departure is synonymous with
the arrival of the cranes, one bird for another. Sometime in the early
spring the cranes will depart and the buzzards return...too cold for them in
winter, like these days it gets down into the teens every morning. Big
raptors on the scene now, an occasional golden eagle, a large Northern
Harrier which skims along the pastures in my zone, and big red tails on high
altitude patrol, along with the usual assortment of smaller hawks. If it
would rain we would get some bald eagles coming from upstream following the
rise.

Javelina meat is for fools and coyotes only, very stringy and tough and foul
tasting. They say that if you cut out the musk gland it is edible. I say no,
maybe better but still not edible.

Thank God we don't have Texas "sportsmen" to deal with. No exotics on this
side of the state. But the biologists are always up to something. In some
parts of the Gila they have poisoned the fish populations (mostly rainbow
trout) and replaced them with hatchery trout which they claim are the
natives of the area. The hatchery trout don't know how to hunt and die off,
replaced with rainbow trout from upstream...The idea of returning the area
to the state it once represented (before the cows came) seems to resonate
with biologists. I say, Fine, let's start by getting rid of the cows. As
long as they are around they will dominate.

Up in the mountains they are trying to reintroduce the wolves. But every
time one is suspected of killing a cow (grazing allotments in the National
Forest) it is caught and returned to captivity. Some of those poor wolves
have been rotated so many times they don't know where home is. Some
ingenious ranchers have discovered the frequencies of the radios on the
wolves collars and track them down...so much for high tech. Personally I
would rather have the forests populated with elk and wolves instead of cows.
This sentiment is growing but with the Repubs in control rangeland reform is
off the table.

What about the hides of the Aodads? Can't you make seat covers or something
out of them?
