Where have you been and up to?

I couldn't live anywhere but Texas. I grew up on the Texas Gulf Coast, but my parents had migrated to the coast from their ancestral home - my father from ranch country of south Texas, and my mother from German farming land near Victoria. So I learned about both, growing up admiring my ranching girl cousin who rode a horse as fast as she could, no saddle and barefoot - and following my maiden aunts around with their farming chores and then doing fine needlework before bedtime.

Now, I live in Houston, work as a transportation engineer/planner. It took me a very long time to discover what to do for a living, so am just now getting to my full potential. My brother, sister and I have a ranch near Shiner, Texas where I would contemplate placing retired horses, but not myself - as I like living here so far. My grown son and his family live in Austin - so I visit there every few weeks.

There are several ghetto friends living here in Houston including Anson "Tony" Barnes who you may have known. Clark Santos who died a few months ago, lived down the street from me for a while. I miss him.

Let's hope that the US is making a turn for better days.

  Connie
