<P><BR><BR></P>Carolyn-- I'm scared of going to war with anyone! But isn't the&nbsp;direct reason we are exerting pressure on Iran right now&nbsp;the Uranium /nuclear development issue? I read today they had uranium reserves they wish to exploit and wish to develop nuclear power-- naturally that scares the U.S. The fact that Israel has the bomb may be used as an excuse by the Iranians for this, but it would seem their real concern is hegemony in the region. Note that plenty of their neighbors to the east have the bomb-- India and Pakestan, most totably, not to mention the Russians. </DIV>

<DIV></DIV>&gt;&nbsp;&nbsp;it is more that Israel might lead us into a war with Iran, not Iraq.&nbsp;&nbsp;Iraq was
<DIV></DIV>&gt;our own doing.&nbsp;&nbsp;I am scared of us going into Iran.
<DIV></DIV>&gt;&nbsp;&nbsp;Carolyn
<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt;Quoting Jon Ford &lt;jonmfordster@hotmail.com&gt;:
<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; Carolyn-- I agree that our country should be more critical of some of
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; Israel's excesses in its treatment of the Palestinians. Although the
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; current
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; administration chides Israel from time to time for certain behavior,
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; such as
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; building more homes in settlements, reprisal killings, etc., we never
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; back
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; up the chiding in any particular way, so the Sharon government doesn't
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; take
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; these comments seriously. Also, of course, it is clear that the
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; Hamas-Palestinian view of Israel, that it has no right to exist and
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; should
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; be "suicide bombed" out of existence, is both vicious and unrealistic
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; doctrine.&nbsp;&nbsp;Furthermore, , it is big simplification to say that Israel
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; led us
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; into war in Iraq with its "undue influence" and faulty Mossad
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; intelligence.
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; Israel certainly didn't care for Saddam Hussein and was no doubt glad to
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; see
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; him go, but we entered Iraq because the Bushies thought it would be easy
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; to
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; get rid of Saddam and that the people would welcome us with open arms,
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; after
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; which we would have strong power/economic base in a US-friendly new
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; Iraq.
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; They were ideologically and&nbsp;&nbsp;strategically wrong, and that's a big
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; reason
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; why we are in the mess we're in now.

<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt;&nbsp;&nbsp;There is an investigation going on by the FBI which is about
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; Israel
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; influence
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt;on our foreign policy towards Iran and it comes out of Wolfowits's
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; office in
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt;the Pentagon.&nbsp;&nbsp;It is no secret that Wolfowitz had a strong Israel
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; bent
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; in his
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt;policy making.&nbsp;&nbsp;I think Bush has a strong pro bias towards Sharon
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; and
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; Israel.
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt;There are occasions when USA's aims and Israel's are the same but
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; not
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; all the
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt;time.&nbsp;&nbsp;I don't see how any democratic country can support all of
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; Israel's
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt;policies towards the Arab world
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt;&nbsp;&nbsp;Carolyn
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt;Quoting Michael Eisenstadt &amp;lt;michaele@HotPOP.com&amp;gt;:
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; Byron,
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; Are you quoting or are you saying yourself that
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; Bush went into Iraq for Israel?
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; This is a lie. I read the Israeli press (online) and I
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; know more or less what Israelis focus on, both
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; their left wing and their right wing. It was NOT
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; that the US should invade Iraq.
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; Perle and Wolfowitz are not Israelis, they are
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; think tank scholars who dont understand
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; recent history. Perle by the way turns out to
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; be an out and out crook in league with some
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; Canadian billionaire. Wolfowitz was an
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; academic and then went into government.
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; Read The Rise of the Vulcans which is about
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; the whole Bush crew. Wolfowitz is NOT a
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; policy maker. The rest of the Bushies are
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; big money non Jewish capitalists. These
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; folks have not ever before acted at Israel's
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; &amp;quot;bidding&amp;quot;.&nbsp;&nbsp;To believe they would for some
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; reason submit to Isael's bidding in any
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; literal sense of the phrase is to be practicing
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; non-rational mentation.
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; Some say it was oil. I think it was pure hubris,
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; perhaps also with an eye towards keeping
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; the US in a permanent state of way thus
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; continuing to hold the presidency. Not Israel.
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; Israel had nothing to do with it. I'm sure the
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; &amp;quot;intelligence&amp;quot; bureaucracy in Israel are busy
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; sending in Israeli operatives to do some kinda
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; biz in Iraq, but that sort of stuff comes with the
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; neighborhood. All the other players (Iran, Egypt,
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; Saudia Arabia) have got agents in Iraq also.
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; If there is one thing the Arabs are good at it
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; is their Mukbaharat skills.
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; Please forward what I am saying here to your
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &amp;gt; &amp;gt; reading circle. Thanks.
