Gerry,
You are exaggerating. Majority of Israelis want the settlements dismanteled.
You don't know the current demographics as well as you should.
It has changed enormously from early statehood days, yes.
The 1 million voting Russians do tend to vote right wing.
But the truth remains that a thin majority of voting Israelis want
the settlements dismanteled.
Barak as recently as 2000 at Camp David offered Arafat a
VERY generous settlement:
94% of the West bank plus some Israeli land. Massive
dismanteling of certain settlements. Arab capital to be
in part of Jerusalem.
Arafat having been made an offer he couldnt refused,
refused. He demanded the right of return of 1948
refugees into Israel.
SO DON'T EXAGGERATE Israelis' failings. Their
virtues OUTWEIGH their failings.
THE BOTTOM LINE: the Palestinians want it all
back, no more Israel is what they are fighting and
dying for.
dont hold the Israelis up to higher Ghandian standards
than how you would act! self-defense is a biological
imperative.
if your enemy is after you to kill you, yud best kill him first.
this is true on a local level, on the sidewalk, as well as
between nations. It is called raison d'etat. That is why
BenGurion gave the order to depopulate as many Arab
villages as possible during the War of Independence.
they were fighting for their lives then, again various
Arab armies
a Jovian thunderbolt onto a cripple in a wheelchair is very
poetic in a creepy kind of way. if the guy is Mr Bad
he might be strangely twisted like Mike Meyers in his
James Bond spoofs. Peter Sellars played Dr Krankhite
with a German accent from a wheel chair in the movie.
Life imitates art.
to talk about the jackboots of an Israeli oppression of
the Palestinians reflects your lack of precise knowledge
of the present situation and its historical antecedents
and a lack of reflection on the moral issue
best
Mike
please dont make that pig Sharon into a synecdoche for
jews in general.
