Yeah, and when he allowed that the Log Cabin Republicans were too liberal for him that was an eye-popper. I recall one time when I was in Galveston hanging out with a few gay friends and we went to one of the local gay bars, a local patron at the bar asked me if I didn't find all this disgusting. I looked at him incredulously and remarked, "Are you kidding--I'm from Austin." It was at that point that I conceived my earliest theory that AIDS was caused by self loathing rather than any particular germ. The recent revelation, that depression causes early death, adds cachet to my old theory. The choice of being gay, (yes, I feel certain that it is not genetic,) is more depressing than uplifting. How could the genes transfer if the definitive characteristic lies in the avoidance of female genitalia?
Don't get me wrong, I love my gay friends, but I certainly don't mind if they don't want to have sex with me. Double negatives aside, I even find it endearing.

What a nice note. Thank you. I am remiss for not sending you a thank you note for inviting me to do the Winedale show. It was good to sneak away for a while. Most of my 'days off' are dedicated to either home projects or family visits, as you can imagine. Maybe in retirement I can do more of those kind of trips. Funny, my sister wasnt sure about inviting a homosexual to join us (not knowing whether we might be offended), when she should have warned me he was a republican! Now that is hard to handle.

Yes, there is life after retirement, (says one who has tried like hell to make retirement a way of life.) It is a time of self indulgence, of sleeping late, making wonderful things to eat that take time to prepare, maybe even baking bread, sopping up all the art and culture available, laughing and loving all the way to that luxury cruise banquet in the sky. As I told a terminal cousin of mine, each day is a whole new world--rejoice upon awakening and
see how much pleasure you can cram into every day. We humans ideally should have some form of pleasure hourly every waking hour.
I sure enjoyed our Quilt viewing excursion to Winedale and La Grange.
Thank you for making it a five-some bringing Martha and Dennis. It was fun meeting them. I only regret that I didn't buy one of those little miniature die-cut-paper quilt kits. I could get into that. Thanks for treating us to lunch. That pork steak we had at Krutze's that I took home, even after four hours in the to-go container, was good and I managed to make two more meals out of it back in Austin. I don't recommend this for non-Alsatians, we whose ancestors survived ground zero of the Bubonic plague and have the immunity to prove it. BTW you sure are looking good,

so this is apparently a good question for us now, now that we are looking at retirement (at least some of us). I have over the years become a better planner, and try to get things lined up best I can for the future. With a pretty good 3-year-plan to get to retirement already in hand, I am currently working on a 'what then?' scenario. Just thinking about it, I have come to the conclusion so far, that I would soon become very bored with myself without much to do.
