I am having some conflict about the Guantanamo Gauchos. Having had the
utmost regard for Ramsey Clark for years and years, I now find myself
emotionally distanced from these creeps. This is beginning to worry me.
It's like some small hole has opened up in my conscience and something dark
has crawled out. The "evidence" of mistreatment is clearly subject to
debate and scrutiny. Said photo was supposedly taken just after the Guacho
disembarked from their flight from Afghanistan. Shackling is common for any
prisoner transfer. Mittens and earmuff can be explained by the noise and
cold on the plane. Hoods are good for security.

As for nakedness, hair cuts and the dog pens.....ah, now I enter the area
of my problem. Part of me says that they should be treated with at least as
much concern as, say, rabid dogs and the other part of me says...give 'em a
Koran, a compass and a plank and lead them down to the Bay with our
blessings for their long swim to Mecca.

What's a guy to do? Oh, I hope the guy who was bitten a couple of days ago
has had all his shots.

Yours in ethical turmoil.
