Dear Jon,
I really don't understand what you are getting at?
Yes there is exploitation of workers. I assume we are all against that.
Yes world change is remarkable and workers in Taiwan are or Sri Lanka =
are
displaced just like the dot comers here. That's a given in a world =
system
constantly transformed by the rise of the computer, mass information
available in the most distant places, and the fact that the world is =
being
integrated globally.
Should we work to ameliorate exploitative conditions where ever we are? =
Of
course. Do we think telelbob is really making Costa Rica worse for his
presence? I doubt it.
Having visited number of Communist and dictatorial countries it's =
obvious to
me that the Capitalist system is the only thing that works. Until the =
next
political sage comes along and can introduce a competing ideology that =
works
better than Capitalism were stuck. Socialism has failed in experiment =
after
experiment because it concentrates power and decision making among an
elite and doesn't lead to efficient production.
Is the old radical Nightbyrd becoming right wing? Hardly. But I think =
were
at a stage in history where we can only work for ameliorating the =
harshness
of Capitalism excesses.
Too bad people are being shocked by our world history of almost bizarre
techno change. But the change of the last century is probably preferable
than dying from lack of antibiotics or watching the Golden Hoard pillage
you village.
So I see like the rest of us, you feel bad for the global underdogs. But =
I
read the sweatshop.org page and wondered what it proved? It didn't tell =
me
that I shouldn't support globalization and world trade. It did tell me =
that
there is continued exploitation which I already knew.
So Jon can you make your argument simple for me? I've read you and =
Telebob
slashing and gouging each other but I couldn't understand the root
argument. Can you write a couple of simple paragraph on what you are
arguing about the macro situation we members of the global community =
face?
Thanks,
Jeff
