All ghettoites and fellow travelers-
You are hereby invited and indeed your presence requested for Maryann =
and Tary's fifteenth (count 'em) annual New Years party, featuring gumbo =
and assorted good luck foods, (jeez we need all the help we can get). =
In other words, bring green beans, spinach, cabbage, apples and honey, =
red beans and rice, black-eyed peas, great northern beans, tamales, =
borscht, desserts of all kinds, the beverages and the smokes of your =
choice, and anything else you can think of that we forgot. Many of the =
people attending are clean and sober, so if you smoke, be discreet. =
That said, everybody come, have fun, enjoy each others presence. We =
know not what the future will bring.
It has been an ambivalent year here on da ribber. Maryann and Tary =
were both inducted into HALL OF FAMEs (Maryann into the Texas Western =
Swing HOF, and Tary into The Texas Music HOF) whatever that's worth. =
Along with long awaited new musical releases for The Texas Redemptors =
and other friends, Maryann and Tary are both producing the works of =
other artists as well as our own. Advance copies will available at the =
party. Fellow ghettoite Gilbert Shelton did the cover art. The artwork =
of David Martinez's Mexican Indian friends is also included. Ghettoite =
Jim Baldauf wrote some of the liner notes, good friend Joe Nick Patoski =
wrote the rest, and some of Texas greatest musicians are featured. =
Official release will be sometime before South by Southwest, but =
mastered copies with Gilbert's art on the CD labels will be available as =
will much of Maryann's new work. We attended, and Maryann sang =
magnificently at Dan Hicks' 60th birthday party at the Warfield theater =
on December 9th. A dark note to that event was the loss of our two =
beloved dogs, Maggie and Mocha. Maggie had been with us thirteen years. =
They were killed when they strayed to US 183, something they'd never =
done before. Believe me, we've already been through all of the =
"should'ves, could'ves", and other speculation, and we know there is no =
blame. We also know that they were "only dogs", not humans, but it =
feels like we lost children.
Anyhoo, y'all come New Years Day, there'll be good food, good company, =
and good music.
Luv,
Mary n' Tary
