<P>Right idea, Roger-- these "big wheels" devices certainly won't do anything to get our youth and adults off their fat asses! Bikes and walking are great forms of exercise-- why not give the postmen mountain bikes? They can go a lot faster  than 17 miles per hour, and you can buy a pretty good one  with big saddle bags for mail for about $300. Energy cost: zero.</P>

<DIV></DIV>>Segway seems like a niche device for the lazy or feeble or unusual
<DIV></DIV>>applications on level ground but not something that will fit between
<DIV></DIV>>driving and walking because bikes are already good at that. They
<DIV></DIV>>appear to be more awkward to stash/haul than bikes at the end of
<DIV></DIV>>the trip, which is their key problem.
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>Humans in general need to walk about 1/2 hour per day or get the
<DIV></DIV>>equivalent amount of mild excercise to maintain good health. Cars
<DIV></DIV>>are
<DIV></DIV>>killers mainly because they replace this walking and replace time
<DIV></DIV>>that
<DIV></DIV>>could be used for excercise under natural conditions in addition to
<DIV></DIV>>the
<DIV></DIV>>50,000 that they kill outright.
