Dear Sir,

Why is the word "quack" associated with an inept physician?

Dear E-I, E-I, A-M-A,

Have you ever seen a speculum?

No! Joke! Although... I suppose if the device isn't properly handled,
you might make a sound like Burgess Meredith fighting Adam West for the
last crab puff on the tray... but no. I meant *this* speculum:

...that's actually *on* a duck, as opposed to just looking like the
Terminator skeleton of one. Now that I think of it, though, that'd be
quite cool. I mean, if you're an evil machine from the future bent on
destroying the human resistance, why *not* disguise yourself as a cute
feathered water fowl with a machine gun? Kneecap the sons of bitches,
then pop 'em in the head when they drop. Puny meat beasts.

Where was I? Oh yes! Quacking the code. So. The speculum on a duck
is that inner feathery bit of a different color, and while they look
awfully nice, they're absolute crap when it comes to removing a gall
bladder. Therefore, they are often associated with misdiagnosed
ailments and inexact prescriptions.

Don't look at me like that. The *whole joke* could have been about
chilly instruments.
