Dear Mister Wonderful,

	Does pain have a smell?

Dear Dogstar,

"Good Lord, Holmes. Don't go," I said. "It... smells pretty painful
out there."

The great man gathered his deerstalker cap and pipe, then took my old
service revolver from the mantle and dropped it into his pocket. He
looked out the open window, then back to where I lay on the settee. His
eyes were pale flint. "When one has eliminated the impossible, whatever
remains, however improbable, must be true. And the truth, Mister
Wonderful, is that London is this very night threatened by rotten puns!"

"Of course! That's why the Queen stowed her thrones in the glass
houses! And then you knew that the knight wouldn't go out on a dog like
that! Brilliant, Holmes. But I still don't understand why you borrowed
all those books on the noses of large mammals."

	"Elephantery, my dear Wonderful."

You know what? We hadn't even finished half the hashish from the
bottom of his slipper yet. Luckily for Mrs. Hudson, I got the gun away
from him before we started in on the cocaine.

Pain, being basically tiny electrical impulses along a nervous system,
probably smells like a licked battery. Humans aren't able to detect the
scent of pain under normal circumstances, not unless Mister Dark wears
his aftershave.

for every man is his own freedom so that his
imagination (it can also be called the conscience
or the Holy Ghost) can grow in its own way, even
if that way, to you or to me, or to policemen
or churchgoers, seems very bad indeed."
