Dear Mr. Wonderful,

I am enrolled in four classes at a university. There is only one male
in two of the classes. One class has all girls. I'm a girl, too. And
my non-fiction class has 3 boys. One boy is in a relationship. One boy
sits next to me and smiles at me, but I'm worried I might talk too much.
I pretty much think he thinks I'm annoying. I'm probably old enough to
be his mommy, anyway.

I have decided that I cannot have too much of a social life with my
class load. I want to do well and internet boys are a no-no.

But what's a girl to do with so few boys in classes with her?

Dear Madeline,

Well, what do you know... that's exactly the premise of quite a number
of films in the Wonderful Library.

The school-skirted ladies in those stories don't waste much time pining
about the lack of male company, let me assure you. These girls are
do-it-yourselfers. Thematically, these movies tend to suggest an
enthusiastic "pro-technology" movement that bucks the recent trend in
popular films, e.g. "The Matrix." That being said, of course, the
heroines always seem to band together to lick their problems in the end.

Mister Wonderful suggests, however, that you eschew *these* fictional
models and instead concentrate on your own cerebral pursuits. What I
have discovered (basing my experiments on the classic 1965 paper by
Frankenstein, Pygmalion, and Higgins) is that putting effort into one's
*own* creations often results in a surprising phone call in the middle
of the night announcing that Miss Yakamoto has reported for duty.
