Looking for thoughts of brilliance.... 1988 CE, 110,000 on the odo....won't start, new fuel filter, fuel pump seems to be running, no fuel at the plugs, sorta fires then dies...any help or suggestions would of course be greatly appreciated.

is there an after market  cut off switch on the car?

you can listen for the fuel pump when someone turns the ignition, you can bypass the fuel pump relay by jumping 2 pins at the socket (look at the schematic).  If you disconnect the fuel line to the fuel distributor and place a jar or bag you can see if the fuel is flowing or not.  If not, pour fuel into the intake and see if it starts.  If it is flowing to the distributor then check the injectors.  If there's fuel then its electrical.  Look for for loose grounds, bad coil, fouled plugs, etc...
