I am looking for the diagnostic connector?
Also I need some parts : jack hole covers 1st aid kit, struts springs
Any help appreciated

and stop buffer.
To remove the upper stock absorber strut mounts do I have to compress

No, I don't think so. I'm about to change front shock absorbers myself on my
1988 300CE. I've changed all springs and that was a hellish task..

they are separately mounted on the a-arm if you take a look.  The strut should compress below the top mount but worse case is you unbolt the bottom mount.  support the chassis and use the jack to move the suspension up and down as needed.  The springs do take some wrestling even with the correct compressor tool.
