Hi all,
I've only got experience of sixes, but I'm sure they're the only one's
to go for. So far I've had:
E320 Coupe '93 Had for 4 years from 95K to 180K, really nice car, smooth
engine, fastish without being a sports car. Highly recommended, bargains
right now, don't worry too much about miles, but needs to be tight &
tidy. Sadly written off in small motorway shunt Oct 05, not much damage
but financially didn't make sense to repair.
300TD (Diesel Estate), '89, I bought this as a stop gap whilst I saved
up for below. Still have it but off the road at mo. Old school diesel
motor, looks like it belongs in a truck. 3.0 but still very slow, but is
a very smooth motorway cruiser once up to 80-90mph. I wouldn't by
another diesel of this age as it was so sedate. I guess more modern ones
are better.
E36 AMG Cabrio, finally got my dream car June 07. Mines a little rough
round the edges but I'll be keeping this a while. Again not especially
quick, but a very pleasant drive.
I wouldn't have thought in current market purchase cost would vary much
between engines, look for well maintained car. I reckon the best balance
between running cost and performance would be a 320 as it's a bit more
modern than the 300, but I have no experience of the 300.
Welcome to the W124, I'm sure you'll be staying a while.

Hi ,
I have owned a 190E for many years but now wish to purchase a W124 of
between 1990- 1995.
I have read that the six cylinder is the one to go for would you agree.
I don`t know which engine size to go for , can anyone advise in this
respect.
I would appreciate any advise and information that you can give.
Thank you in anticipation of your help
Regards
Jack Taylor.
