Hi Rich,
First check the actuator-lever is set properly:
- ie. check that the actuator lever rests against the idle-stop of the CC
- to do this, disconnect the pull-rod (has a little ball socket on the end)
- press the lever clockwise against the idle-stop
- reconnect the lever to the pull-rod
- the actuator lever must be lifted approx. 1mm from the idle-stop
- if not, adjust the rod - prise off the socket, loosen the lock-nut, screw socket in or out, tighten lock-nut
Symptoms: "jerking" over approx 60 kph with cruise-control switched on
Test relay:
- remove the CC relay
- connect terminals 2 & 3 in the relay's socket with a test lead and run the car with CC enabled
- If the problem is no longer apparent, replace the relay
- If the problem still persists, trace the wiring for the relay
Paraphrased from this book, The Mercedes W124 Owners Wokshop Manual by Technibooks/Motorbooks which I really recommend. http://tinyurl.com/ytbpuc Much better than the Haynes manual. However the wiring diagrams in both books don't show the cruise-control !!
Hope that helps
Frank
