Richard,
Remember the engine will be cranked-over hard at high(ish) speeds,
delivering the power required to get there....
This means the engine mounts will be under a lot of strain and
metal-to-,metal contact could take place.......not just in the engine mounts
but the exhaust is at the ectreme of it's movement too, so could be
contacting something....

steve, i am amazed that already you seem to have information that no
mercedes garage seemed to have here in Bordeaux.... they simply say that
they knopw of no-one set up to balance the drive shaft. The drive shaft has
been off and on buth i am convinced now from the words "thrumming at 100 to
150 kmh that this is exactly the problem. How long does the procedure
described in the AF41 etc sheet take ? Are tjhey going to "sting" me
for the repair as I have already spent a lot on this car...... although i do
have a vehicle which will potentially outlast me !
I agree on balancing being delicate but do not feel that this is the
cause.... too many different rebalances by different companies has not cured
the "thrumming" (i am so, so pleased with this word... it describes
exactly the problem !
regards and thanks Richard
