If you feel it in the steering wheel, it's probably coming from the front
end.
How old is the steering damper?
Are you sure those mechanics are familiar with the W124 series? I believe
the current models no longer use a strut-based front suspension, so many
dealerships may not be sufficiently familiar with diagnosing models like
ours.
