[W124] (no subject)

Question?
On my  1987  Mercedes  the heat does not come out from the floor but  
through the defroster  outlets on the windshield.  The cool air comes 
out from the dash outlets as it should
When the heat is on I can hear a "slight clicking"  noise under the 
glove box as some "door" wants to open  but  cannot?
Is this  a sign of a faulty climate control unit in the dash or some  
cable that is not working?
I have another climate unit, should I just go ahead and  replace the 
one in the dash?
