[W124] Tyres on 17"

I wasn't sure it applied as far back as 93, but MB had some challenges with
engine wiring harnesses for a few years. It hit our 95 C280 with the same
M104 engine family. It apparently affected gas sixes and eights from mid or
late 93 through early or mid 96. They switched to an environmentally
friendly (or perhaps just cheaper) insulation on the wiring, and it didn't
hold up so well. I don't know if 4 or 12 cylinder or diesels were affected,
although I wouldn't be surprised.
Still, unless Greg had more than just the engine wiring harness replaced, I
am surprised at the price. The parts cost for us about 3 years ago was just
under a grand, and I thought book rate was 4 or 8 hours of labor. Then
again, one usually has more work done when committed to an expensive
servicing.
And I have no help on the wheels question other than to mention that there
is a sheet about it in my repair CD set. You might be able to find it on the
set at mb.braingears.com. There was mention of rebending the fender lip, but
I haven't upgraded my wheels, so I didn't memorize the details.

Curious
Why would you have to change the wiring harness on a 13 year car, yet alone
a Mercedes?
thank you

Gentlemen,
I have a 93 300CE Cabriolet W/ 60K miles ( W124) just replaced the wiring
harness in Dallas, Tx., $2800 USD, ouch !!. Need recommendation on new
tires, currently running the original 15" wheels with michelin tires.
thought about moving up to 16", didn't know 17" was an option, wish to keep
mercedes wheels, rather than after market. Any suggestions ??
Thanks & Regards

OH, nice catch Declan. I completely missed the info from the other
post on the tires. Those two tires sizes have a difference of 4.8%.
Could absolutely be the problem.
