[W124] Wheel advice

This question must have been asked a thousand times, bur I'll ask it again
anyway...
 
 
What is the greatest offset 17 inch wheels I can fit to a 1993 320CE?
 
I've got some 225x45x17 tyres sitting in the Garage ready to fit, but I want
the widest-looking wheels I can get without rubbing. (or maybe just a little
action on the bodywork with a soft-faced hammer).....
