Thanks for the two-bulb correction, Alec. Still, I wonder why two bulbs would go out on that unit. Maybe not simultaneously? 

I've heard of the trick to remove the bulbs (although your method sounds good, too). You slip a tight fighting piece of rubber or plastic tubing over the end of the bulb, and you can pull it out.
