[W124] stalling/poor idle

Bill, Try winding the throttle-stop until the tickover creeps above 500 or
so.... If that "cures" it, the fault is likely to be the idle control valve.

 
 
It may just be a work-around, but it won't cost you $5K....

Bill, I had the same problem with my 90 300ce. I was told that it could be
everything from the spark plugs to the o2 sensor to a cracked ceramic plate
on the undercarraige. After everything my mechanic just replaced everything
that he could find wrong with it. It cost me about 5K but it fixed it.
You're air prob sounds like it might be a bad coil. That was a major prob
with mine. Hope I helped and wish you luck. J. Smith

My 1988 CE is stalling a lot and idle is between 4 to 500 rpm. I have
changed plugs, cap, rotor, air cleaner but it persists. Once at speed it
runs like a swiss watch. Any suggestions?
