HI,
I don't think there is a way to do it without removing the dashboard.
I had mine replaced a year back. Now working good. My mechanic took two days
to do it
Only problem I have with the A/c now is that when I switch the recirc on
with the blower at auto, the system shuts off after a few mins and then it
comes on slowly.
Best of luck.

Hi,
Has anyone had experience replacing the evaporator on their CE? Is there a
way to accomplish this without removing the entire dash? Any hints would be
greatly appreciated! Also, is there a routine culprit to look for when the
aux
fans are not coming on?
Many thanks,
William

WM,
Sorry to learn of your delema.
I have been riding around for the lastt two years refusing to replace the
evaporator, as it is too costly.
I have been quoted approx $2500.00US by a non MB dealer, yet someone who
regularly services my baby.
Other than the EV all is well.

I may have a small leak in mine as well. That's why I converted to R134a.
Topping up the system at 8 bucks a can, it will take quite a while before I
come out behind.

Don't know about the evaporator, (you can bet it's a long job), but it
should be easy to check the fans by shorting the temperature sensor in the
radiator.....if they come on, that must be the problem.
If they don't, then start working logically through form the battery to the
fan motors. Fuses seem to be troublesome in countries with damp winters. The
fan motors can probably be renovated with just a new set of brushes.
My guess would be the temperature sensor, second to the fan motors
themselves, it probably has the hardest life.
