Mine's a '92 with a M103 engine (and presumably therefore has some
Teutonically indestructible material like space shuttle thermal tile glue
!!!) , but I'll keep my eye out for probs.

Cheers

Have experienced this with a 95 C280, my understanding is that MB tried to
switch to an insulation material that was easier to recycle. Turned out the
stuff wanted to recycle itself a little early.

I thought the new wiring was applied the M119 V8 family starting around 92
and
the M104 I6 family starting around 93, for all applications of these motors
(201, 124, 140, etc.). By 96 or 97, they figured out the stuff didn't last
and corrected it for new stock.

If you have it replaced, have it done by someone familiar with the cars. I
believe the engine computer(s) need a little retraining after the wiring
swap.
I just wish I hadn't had so much faith in my non-MB-specialist friend when
this happened to us.
